Welcome February--Things to Come
Back from a much-need trip to warmer climes, which readjusted my attitude appropriately. Of course, five minutes after we rolled into the house, it started snowing and the storm made it all the way to five inches before it petered out. I’m not complaining, but it’s been a very odd winter, meteorologically.
So, what’s next for The Far Northeast? Starting next week, I’m going to begin serializing a novel, The Righteous Brother, I wrote several years ago. Here’s the synopsis:
Trevor Macklin returns to South Barnham, the Maine town where he grew up and his wife Karin summered, to try and win her back. They’ve been estranged for months over her infidelities and a long-standing argument whether to have children. One day, he witnesses a terrible fire in the attic of a grocery store owned by Philip Fecteau, one of his three cousins, all brothers, who live in town. Seven children perish in a fire at an off-the-books day care center run by Arthur Fecteau, one of Philip’s brothers. The parents of one of the children hire Trevor to investigate what happened.
It’s dark as heck, at least at the beginning. Usual rules apply—first three chapters will be free to all. After that, the paywall goes up and free subscribers will get teasers. If you enjoyed the experience with The Retrievers, maybe you can convince someone you know who likes crime fiction to sign up.
Not to repeat myself, but I am very grateful for all the support, paid and unpaid, for this strange little venture. There will continue to be plenty of content for free subscribers, too, but I’m aware you are all acting as my patrons, and I do appreciate it. I have a short story ready to post for everyone next week as well, as soon as it’s published. Thanks again, and I always want to hear what you think.
