Going Forward
It’s been quiet here on Trout Creek in the aftermath of holidays, horrific rain and windstorms, and a last-minute tooth extraction that shot a week. And I know many of you are suffering from other weather-related craziness. Be well, and take care.
I’ve decided to stick with Substack for the foreseeable future. I do not find the arguments for leaving compelling. All social media is vulnerable to cranks and crazies and there’s a simple solution—don’t read or follow people you don’t want to listen to.
And definitely don’t follow people who don’t have the courage to sign their names to what they say.
So—what’s next?
Short winter break, toes in the sand next week. Once we’re back, starting Friday, February 2, I’m going to start serializing another short novel as I did The Retrievers, a chapter a week. As I did before, the first three chapters will be free to all and then I will retreat behind the paywall. But I’ll continue to post free content: stories, essays, and general rumination. Many of you have been willing to support this effort, and I appreciate it immensely. If you know people who might be interested, feel free to share.
Thanks so much for your support, and we’ll talk soon.
